Lawmakers vote to override Missouri foster care bill

September 12th, 2013 in News

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri lawmakers have voted to override Gov. Jay Nixon's veto of legislation requiring an additional set of fingerprints of foster parents.

The Senate voted 25-9 on Wednesday. The House approved the override 109-52, which is the minimum needed to override a veto.

The legislation requires people providing emergency foster care or seeking licensure as a foster parent to submit three sets of fingerprints instead of the current two sets.

The extra set of prints would be kept by a division within the Department of Social Services so that people would not have to submit new fingerprints every two years.

Foster care bill is SB110
