JC man faces molestation charge

Jefferson City resident Wayne T. Kurtz Jr., 35, was charged Saturday with first-degree child molestation, a Class B felony.

A probable cause statement said that an unidentified female juvenile told deputies that while she was at Kurtz's residence on the evening of Sept. 2, "he smacked her on the buttocks while she was getting out a diaper from underneath the changing table," then asked her: "Do you want me to do that again and lock you in here?"

One witness reported seeing the incident and hearing him ask the question, while another witness reported hearing him ask the question from another room.

Kurtz admitted to the incident, the probable cause statement said.

He was released on $15,000 bond.

An arraignment has been set for 9 a.m. Oct. 8 in Cole County Circuit Judge Tom Sodergren's court.
