Two JCPS teachers win literacy grant

Two teachers at the Jefferson City Academic Center - Kim Sellers and Carla Brown - recently received a $2,000 Youth Literacy Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Organization to support literacy programs at JCAC.

The grant will provide the SOAR program (Successful Opportunities for Active Readers) with the ability to strengthen learners' reading comprehension, competence and motivation.

"SOAR is designed to build a community of readers and encourage personal growth," Brown said.

The money will purchase books and online curriculum, as well as supplemental vocabulary and assessment materials.
