Your Opinion: Gasoline pricing hints at collusion

May 12th, 2013 by Bob Kettler, Jefferson City in News

Dear Editor:

For a long time I've watched the gasoline prices here in Jefferson City go through wild up and down swings. I have concluded that the consortium controlling the gasoline supply here in Jefferson City are tending to make one to think of collusion. I realize that is a strong statement, but consider this if you will:

When the prices either rise or fall, the monetary change is identical with each and every fueling place in town. When the prices either rise or fall, the change is made the same day, and almost the same hour. Coincidental, I believe not.

Cost of gasoline out of the city limits has always been less, and the rational for that has never been explained satisfactorily. Actually their explanations for the rise and fall of gas prices has never been believable.

I am not an advocate of government involvement, but in this case the attorney general should at least verify that the suppliers of gasoline for Jefferson City, are giving the consumers a fair shake.

The two monopolies, AmerenUE and the gasoline suppliers, are taking advantage of the consumers. We need the utilities and gasoline, but don't gouge us.
