KC-area school on lockdown after gun sighting

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (AP) - An elementary school in Lee's Summit is temporarily placed on lockdown after someone reported seeing a person on campus with a gun tucked in his waistband.

Lee's Summit police spokesman Sgt. Chris Depue says officers were called to Chapel Lakes Elementary School around 4 p.m. Wednesday and found a girl and two boys who were suspects. He says the gun in question was determined to be a BB gun.

All three juveniles were taken into custody and later released to their parents. Depue says juvenile authorities will decide whether any charges should be filed.

The school is part of the Blue Springs School District but located in Lee's Summit.
