Dear Editor:
I read (skimmed over) Ron Deatherage's editorial in Thursday's paper. How would we know about these starving children without the help of worldwide news such as satellites? Well we wouldn't. There have always been the poor and starving. So why is it now our duty to save the world?
Just like the weather. We now name storms and blame conditions on ocean temperature. Years ago we had names for the weather; it was called "the weather." We knew winter could be cold and summer could be hot. If summer was mild, or winter, we just were grateful, we did not go around blaming this and that for "the weather"!
I agree early warning is a good thing. But it seems we now have more time to worry about what we can not change and get high centered on things we can prevent.
History has proven who our friends and enemies worldwide were, and some still are. I don't need Fox News to tell me it's not a good idea to give F16s and M1 tanks to radical Islamic factions.
Do we have too much information fed to us continually or is it just a loss or lack of common sense? You be the judge.
