HAYS, Kan. - It was a three-peat for the Lincoln women's track and field team.
In their third season since rejoining the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, the Blue Tigers stayed perfect, winning their third consecutive title at the MIAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships.
And it wasn't even close, as Lincoln's 217 points easily outdistanced second-place Pittsburg State, which had 108 points.
The rest of the field included Missouri Southern (79.5), Emporia State (78.5), Central Missouri (76.5), Truman State (49), Lindenwood (44), Fort Hays State (38.5), Nebraska Kearney (38), Southwest Baptist (30), Northwest Missouri State (29) and Central Oklahoma (28).
The Blue Tigers were led by the meet's high-point scorer, Twishana Williams.
Williams kicked off the event Saturday by finishing second in the 10,000-meter run (36:53.89). She followed that up Sunday with a title in the 1,500-meter run, as her time of 4:33.37 was a provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
She followed that up with a third-place finish in the 800-meter run, as she posted a provisional mark of 2:11.37.
That event was notable for Lincoln for another reason. Lovan Palmer won the race in 2:09.66, which was not only a provisional qualifying mark, but also a meet record. Her time topped the mark of 2:10.14 set way back in 1988 by Janice Gibson of Southeast Missouri State.
Williams then capped off her day with a win in the 5,000-meter run (17:51.18).
There was strength in numbers for the Blue Tigers in several events.
Lincoln went 1-2-3 in the 400-meter dash. Donna-Lee Hylton won with an automatic qualifying mark of 53.55, Yanique Haye was second in 53.70, another automatic mark, and Michelle Cumberbatch was third with a provisional mark of 54.75.
The Blue Tigers put four in the top eight in the 400-meter hurdles. Haye won in 59.14, an automatic mark, while Cumberbatch was runner-up in 59.84, a provisional mark. Juneille Barker (1:01.55) and Marcia Harrison (1:02.68) were fourth and sixth, respectively, both of which were provisional marks.
It was almost as good in the 100-meter hurdles, where the Blue Tigers went 1-2-5. Anna-Kay James won with an automatic qualifying mark of 13.55, Barker was second with a provisional mark of 13.92 and Toni-Ann Moore was fifth with a provisional mark of 14.23.
And in the 100-meter dash, Lincoln again went 1-2-5. Yanique Ellington was first with a provisional time of 11.81, Cardine Copeland came in second with a provisional mark of 11.89 and Moore was fifth in 12.07.
In the triple jump, Danielle Newman was third (39-1 3/4), Jonelle Campbell was fourth (39- 1/4) and Sanchia Lee was sixth (37-6 3/4).
Hylton also won the 200-meter dash with an automatic mark of 23.70, while Ellington was second in the same event with a provisional mark of 24.20.
Meanwhile, Sheri Kaye Campbell won the triple jump (40-9 3/4); was second after a jump-off in the high jump with a provisional mark of 5-7; and was eighth in the heptathlon (4,227 points).
Also for Lincoln, Nickeisha Beaumont was fifth in the long jump (18-10 3/4), Lee was eighth in the long jump (17-9) and the 4x100-meter relay team of Moore, Latoya King, Ellington and Copeland captured the title with an automatic qualifying time of 45.24.
Also at the event, Missouri Southern's Melanie Bower (Linn High School) was fifth in the pole vault with a provisional mark of 12-1 1/2 and Southwest Baptist's Briana Watson (Jefferson City High School) was seventh in the 5,000-meter run (18:37.60).
On the men's side, Lincoln ended up in sixth place overall with 67 points. Pittsburg State won the event with 145, while the rest of the top five was made up of Missouri Southern (134.5), Central Missouri (113), Nebraska Kearney (93.5) and Emporia State (78).
Southwest Baptist was seventh (54) and the rest of the field included Northwest Missouri State (51), Fort Hays State (44), Lindenwood (30) and Truman State (7).
Sabiel Anderson led the way for Lincoln as he won the 110-meter hurdles with a provisional mark of 13.99 and took first in the 400-meter hurdles in a provisional time of 51.51.
The only other win for the Blue Tigers came from Romel Lewis, who took first in the 100-meter dash in 10.26, an automatic qualifying mark.
Michael Ashley was second in the 400-meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of 47.26 and third in the 200-meter dash (21.15), while Jermaine Blake was second in the 800-meter run (1:52.99).
Central Missouri's Brent Vogel (Helias High School) won the decathlon with 6,925 points, a provisional mark. He was also a member of the Mules' 4x400-meter relay team, with Daniel McCarty (Blair Oaks High School), that finished third with a provisional mark of 3:13.27.
Matthew Schaefer (Helias High School) was part of the Truman State 4x400-meter relay team that finished sixth (3:16.53).
The Division II Championships will be held May 23-25 on the campus of Colorado State-Pueblo.
