The Holts Summit Board of Aldermen has given first round approval to an ordinance issuing $1 million in revenue bonds to design improvements in the city's sewer system.
It is the first phase of a $7 million revenue bond issue package approved by Holts Summit voters in the 2011 city election.
The board also authorized City Administrator Brian Crane to direct the city's design consultants in developing plans and specifications for areas of the city not connected to the city's sewerage system.
The city also began moving toward renovation of the current city hall building and construction of a new combination municipal courtroom and board of aldermen meeting room.
Aldermen voted to authorize Mayor Lucas Fitzpatrick to enter into a contract with Porter Berendzen Architects to design the city's renovation projects.
Crane estimated the city will spend from $20,000 to $30,000 for design services provided by the architectural firm.
The city last December entered into a 10-year lease-purchase agreement to acquire a nearby two-level building occupied previously by Mid-Missouri Inventory Service, Inc.
The city plans to convert the entire existing city hall building to a structure housing only the Holts Summit Police Department.
The board also approved a plan to install fiber optic cable for telephone and data transmission to all three buildings in the new complex that will include the new City Hall building, the Police Department building and the renovated Municipal Courtroom and Board of Aldermen meeting room building with a storm shelter on the lower level.
Crane said the fiber optic cable in the city complex will connect with CenturyLink Telephone Co. fiber optic lines.
In other action, the board:
• Appointed Brian Hill to the Planning and Zoning Commission for a four-year term.
• Authorized the purchase of an eight-foot snowplow for the Street Department.
• Approved a resolution naming the industrial park access road Commerce Drive.
• Approved a revision of the city ordinance relating to political signs.
