Post 5 wins tournament title

SPRINGFIELD - The Jefferson City American Legion Post 5 Seniors captured the title of the Howard Johnson Invitational on Sunday by taking a pair of games.

Post 5 won the first game of the day 12-1 against the Naturals behind a three-hitter from Garrett Haslag. The run was earned and he struck out five while walking three.

Patrick Schnieders led the offensive explosion with two hits, including a home run, and four RBI.

Also for the local club, Logan Bax had one hit and two RBI, Nolan Bax and Trevor Schnieders had one hit and one RBI apiece, Corey Beard drove in two runs and Haslag and Seth Lehmen had one RBI each.

Post 5 then beat the Naturals (Old) by an 8-3 margin.

Trevor Schnieders had a single, double and two RBI, Cole Distler was 2-for-2 with two RBI, Dylan Brauner had three hits and one RBI and Patrick Schnieders had one hit and two RBI.

Distler started and got the win, giving up three runs (two earned) in five innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Collin Brinker then pitched two hitless innings and struck out four while walking just one.

Post 5 (15-0) will return to action Thursday through Sunday at the Washington Wood Bat Showcase.
