Runge Nature Center is celebrating its 20th anniversary from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Nature Night Out from 8-11 p.m. July 13 at the center in Jefferson City.
The open house will include a variety of outdoor activities along the five nature trails, such as fishing, archery and wetland exploration; nature programs with raptors, storytelling and music; a photo exhibit; crafts and an opportunity to meet 20 different outdoor enthusiasts who will share their natural connection.
Since the center opened in 1993, more than 1.8 million people have visited. The center occupies 112 acres and includes a 27,000 square-foot nature center building with a 200-seat auditorium, three classrooms, an indoor wildlife viewing area, a nature library, various animal mounts and a small gift shop.
Visitors can also explore more than 3,000 square feet of exhibits that lead through an assortment of Missouri's natural habitats. Featured in the exhibit is a freshwater aquarium, live amphibians and reptiles and white-tailed deer.
Runge Nature Center is located on Missouri 179. Building hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. The building is closed on Sunday and Monday. Outdoor trails are open from 6 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
