Poster contest open to fifth-graders

The Missouri Highway Patrol is participating in the National Missing Children's Day poster contest open to all Missouri fifth-grade students.

Participating students will create 11-by-14-inch posters that reflect the theme "Bring Our Missing Children Home."

Each participating Missouri school will choose a first place winner and submit that winner to the Highway Patrol Missing Person Unit on or before March 8. The application can be found on the Patrol's website, www.mshp.dps.mo.gov. A completed application must accompany the entry.

Entries should be mailed to MSHP Missing Persons Unit, Attn: Heather Elder, Q/DDCC, PO Box 568, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0568.

One Missouri poster will be given an overall first place award and will be automatically entered in the national competition.

This year marks the 16th anniversary of the creation on the AMBER Alert System.

AMBER stands for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response, which was created to help law enforcement in locating missing children.
