BizBeat: FFO Home moves for renovations

Jefferson City's FFO Home is boasting a "Moving Sale" in hopes of selling all of its inventory in the coming weeks. Missouri Region District Manager David McEntire said the store is closing temporarily, and relocating to the Capital Mall for the next few months. The Missouri Boulevard location is getting a complete overhaul, McEntire said.

"This is something we've been wanting to do for years. We're excited about it," McEntire noted.

The company has leased the 2010 Missouri Boulevard property for more than 15 years. McEntire said the upcoming renovation will include gutting the existing building, remodeling both inside and out. An expansion to the back of the building will provide approximately 10 percent more square footage, and allow for an expansion to the existing showroom. Other changes involve a new office, break room, and bathrooms after the building is completely gutted and rebuilt.

McEntire said the renovations should take from 90 to 100 days. The store anticipates opening at the Capital Mall with all new inventory on Jan. 12. FFO Home will utilize a space nearly the size of its existing building inside the Mall in the Dillards wing, with direct outside entrance. February and March are some of FFO Home's biggest months of the year, with many people utilizing tax dollars for new housewares. McEntire said the store is pleased to find a home in the Capital Mall and will be open for its customers during those busy times.

"We hope to be back in the store by May or June," McEntire said.

FFO Home anticipates keeping all its employees, and possibly hiring more staff when it moves back to its Missouri Boulevard location.

The local store switched from Furniture Factory Outlet to the new FFO Home in 2012. The company closed its store for approximately one week to do some painting, reset its floor and bring in new products. McEntire said since the change to FFO Home, the company is in "more of a rapid expansion and growth rate."

Companywide, FFO Home has opened several new stores, and recently closed its old location in Columbia, building a brand new facility.
