Girls Basketball: Lady Jays fall

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - A late lead slipped away as Jefferson City dropped a 42-40 decision to Parkview in the fifth-place game of the Stephanie Phillips Classic on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Jays owned a two-point advantage in the final minute before Parkview nabbed a steal and a basket to tie the game. Jefferson City missed the front end of a one-and-one before Parkview canned a pair of free throws for the final margin.

A last-gasp shot didn't fall as the Lady Jays fell just short.

Nicole Martin had 10 poins to pace the Lady Jays, who led 8-7 after one quarter before Parkview took a 23-16 halftime lead. The score was knotted at 29 heading into the last period.

Jefferson City (3-4) is off until Dec. 27 when it faces Southeast out of Oklahoma City, Okla., in the opening round of the State Farm Holiday Hoops Invitational at Rackers Fieldhouse.
