Fire kills elderly couple in their Lexington home

LEXINGTON, Mo. (AP) - A couple has died in a house fire in the western Missouri town of Lexington.

Lexington Police Chief Don Rector identified the victims as 84-year-old Nick Deamos and 79-year-old Maxine Deamos. KSHB (http://is.gd/3a7hvE ) reports that their house was engulfed in flames when police and fire crews arrived just after 6 a.m. Friday.

Firefighters found the couple in their bedroom. They were rushed to hospitals, where they later died.

Rector says rescue crews evacuated residents from houses on both sides of the burning home because of the intensity of the fire.
