Unattended backpack causes scare in Poplar Bluff

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) - An unattended package is responsible for a bomb scare in the southeast Missouri town of Poplar Bluff.

Police Capt. David Sutton says there was a report Tuesday afternoon of a suspicious package left at the base of a railroad trestle. Responding officers found a backpack.

A robot from the Southeast Missouri Regional Bomb Team removed the backpack and dismantled it with a water cannon. It was found to contain clothing and personal effects.
