Blair Oaks downs Hallsville

HALLSVILLE - Blair Oaks brought a combined no-hitter into the seventh inning before giving up four hits in the bottom of the frame.

Still, the Falcons cruised to an 11-5 victory over Hallsville on Thursday.

Kyler Maxey tossed five hitless innings and struck out 10 batters. He allowed a pair of unearned runs and walked four. Ryan Abbott then tossed a hitless sixth before allowing four hits and three unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh. He struck out two.

Jacob Koelling went 4-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Falcons' 14-hit attack, and Beau Distler and Seth Eskens both picked up two hits.

Blair Oaks opened the scoring with four runs in the top of the third. Derek Otto got things going with an RBI double and came around to score on a single from Dustin Blomberg. Blomberg later scored on an error. Koelling added an RBI single to make it 4-0.

Hallsville got two runs back in the bottom of the frame on an error.

Blair Oaks tacked on three more runs in the fourth, highlighted by Eskens' RBI double, and another three in the fifth, sparked by an RBI double from Koelling and a run-scoring single from Eskens.

Austin Wilbers added an RBI double in the top of the seventh to make it 11-2.

Hallsville finally broke up the no-hitter with one out in the bottom of the seventh when Tanner Church singled to center field. The Indians scored two runs in the frame on an error and Nathan Katz added an RBI single to cap the scoring.

Blair Oaks (2-0) plays Rockhurst, the No. 3 team in Class 5, at 2:30 p.m. today at Vivion Field in the opening round of the Capital City Invitational.

In Thursday's JV game, Blair Oaks captured a 10-1 victory.

Collin Luebbering had two hits and one RBI for the winners, while Brent Heckemeyer and Dalton Fifer had one hit and one RBI each.

Bryce Pritchett got the win for the Falcons (2-0), who will host Fulton on Monday.
