I ran across some statistics that are from The Guttmacher Institute (AGI) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) about abortion in the United States. Since California has not complied with CDC requests for abortion data in many years, and since California accounts for more abortions than any other state in the U.S, CDC totals are routinely incomplete. AGI, on the other hand, is the research arm of Planned Parenthood, the world's largest abortion provider.
While their data is helpful, they are a much less neutral source. The following information has been gleaned from both sources to provide an overview of the frequency and demography of abortion. Additional, secondary statistics have been taken from the National Abortion Federation (NAF).
On average, women give at least three reasons for choosing an abortion: 75 percent say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities; about 75 percent say they cannot afford a child; and 50 percent say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner (AGI). Only 12 percent of women included a physical problem with their health among reasons for having an abortion (NAF). Only 1 percent (of aborting women) reported that they were the survivors of rape (NAF).
In 2008, 84.3 percent of all abortions were performed on unmarried women (CDC). Women living with a partner to whom they are not married account for 25 percent of abortions but only about 10 percent of women in the population (NAF.) Women of ages 20-24 obtained 33 percent of all abortions in 2008; women 25-29 obtained 24 percent (CDC).
The abortion rate of women with Medicaid coverage is three times as high as that of other women (NAF). Thirty-seven percent of women obtaining abortions identify themselves as Protestant, and 28 percent identify themselves as Catholic (AGI). At current rates, nearly 33 percent of American women will have an abortion (AGI.)
The KJV Bible teaches us that life begins at conception and that we should not be in the business of terminating innocent life by performing abortions, especially for the vast majority of reasons listed above. Those in favor of this procedure always cite "rape and incest" as a reason for having an abortion.
My question would be, "Why should the baby have to pay with their life"? I know this is a tragic circumstance, but why kill the child?
