Mo. woman set for trial in son's methadone death

October 23rd, 2012 in News

NEOSHO, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri woman will go on trial next year for the death of her toddler son from a methadone overdose.

KOAM-TV reports ( ) a Newton County judge on Monday scheduled an April 23 trial for Elizabeth Farnam on a charge of second-degree murder.

Farnam's 22-month-old son, Logan Crow, died in June at their home in Granby. A toxicology report found his system contained a high level of methadone, a drug that's prescribed mainly to treat heroin addiction.

Prosecutors say Farnam told investigators she dropped a methadone pill as Logan sat on her lap at a church meeting. She said Logan became ill so she took him home and put him to bed. He was found dead 17 hours later.

Authorities say Farnam did not have a methadone prescription.
