Voters' photo ID amendment off ballot

Voters' photo ID amendment off ballot

May 22nd, 2012 in News

Missouri voters can cast ballots for at least two more years without being required to show a government-issued, photo-identification card as their only proof-of-identity.

Lawmakers this past session failed to fix the ballot language on a proposed constitutional amendment after Cole County Presiding Circuit Judge Patricia Joyce ruled in late March that it had to be rewritten.

"Since the Legislature failed to pass new ballot language after the court vacated the original language," Ryan Hobart, who is Secretary of State Robin Carnahan's spokesman, confirmed Monday afternoon in an e-mail, "this proposal won't go before the voters in November."

The Legislature last year passed the resolution placing the amendment on the Nov. 6, 2012, general election ballot.
