Church would be displaced by future Lafayette Street interchange

Boarded up properties on Jefferson City's Layfette Street near East Miller will be the new home for the Quinn AME Chapel.

The site of worship may change for a third time in its history, but Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church will continue to celebrate its faith and share it with the Jefferson City neighborhood near Lincoln University.

Once the church secures ownership of property at the northeast corner of Lafayette and Miller streets - between Miller and Handley Way - it will continue to lease its present building from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) until the new place of worship is built.

Work could begin by summer.

"That will change the whole dynamic of the area," said Mike Dusenberg, MoDOT project manager, who spoke recently to the Missouri State Penitentiary Redevelopment Commission.
