Jefferson City's downtown sidewalk sales will take place the first four days of August.
Sam Bushman of the Jefferson City Downtown Association said the sales are a tradition that have coincided with the Cole County Fair since the late 1940s.
"Everything downtown has always been keyed with the Jaycees," Bushman said. "The sidewalk sale has always been in conjunction with the Cole County Fair. Living Windows has always been with the Jaycees Christmas Parade."
The fair runs from Monday through Aug. 4. Living Windows this year will be Nov. 30, and the Christmas parade will be the following day, Dec. 1.
Bushman said since the sidewalk sale started more than 60 years ago, it has never been canceled. An attempt was made to cancel the sale during the Flood of '93, and the issue was even discussed by city officials. But the sale went on as planned.
"Since we have so many new businesses this year, it's going to be fun," Bushman said. "I think people will be pleasantly surprised."
