Arson believed to be cause of fire at Maries Co. charcoal plant

At approximately 4 a.m. members of the Maries County Sheriff's Office responded to Royal Oaks Charcoal Plant located on Route EE in Belle for a report of a fire.

It was reported that nearly 80,000 lbs of charcoal and two structures were burning.

The Belle Fire Department, Bland Fire Department, and Vichy Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the fire.

After further investigation it is suspected that the fires were set intentionally, and the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office was called into assist with the investigation.

No one was injured.
