ST. LOUIS (AP) - Missouri relatives of a man killed in the crash of an Air Force cargo plane 60 years ago in Alaska are hopeful that his remains could soon be returned.
Leonard Unger of Gerald, Mo., was among the 41 passengers and 11 crew members who died in the Nov. 22, 1952, crash of a C-124A Globemaster on a glacier near Anchorage. Relatives say Unger was an Army specialist mechanic who was about 36 at the time.
The wreckage was spotted soon after the crash but the weather was so bad a military team couldn't get to it. The debris eventually became buried in the glacier's snowy crevasses.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/NCYuu7 ) reports the wreckage was rediscovered on June 14 by an Alaska Army National Guard helicopter.
