Annual Mansion classes for youths include texting etiquette

This year's Manners at the Mansion drew 88 youngsters, who learned the finer points of dining etiquette as well as mobile device manners.

"Children these days are exposed to the iPhone, iPad, iPod, you name it," said Laura Bennett-Smith, executive director of Missouri Mansion Preservation. "If they do not have one now, they will soon, and it is important to teach them how to deal with these things as they come up in their lives."

In 2010, Bennett-Smith added the mobile manners and texting lessons to Manners at the Mansion, a program that began in the 1990s during the Carnahan administration.
