JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Treasurer Clint Zweifel (ZWY'-ful) says the state's housing agency is supporting the construction of more homes to reduce homelessness.

The Missouri Housing Development Commission was meeting Friday in Columbia.

Zweifel serves on the commission's board. He says the commission approved the construction of 155 housing units Friday. He estimated the housing agency has supported building more than 350 housing units to serve the mentally ill, physically disabled, homeless or youths leaving the foster care system.

In recent years, Zweifel has pushed the housing agency to focus on reducing homelessness. He says the additional homes would save taxpayer money and help to address the problem of homelessness.
