I believe we will all agree that nobody enjoys paying a tax on their income, purchases or fuel. However, when the benefit of the tax outweighs the cost, the tax is acceptable as it enables a greater good.
I support the Transformation initiative because approval of the half-cent sales tax enables a $40 million, 10-year investment in a citizen based /citizen managed initiative. For just 50 cents on every $100 spent we achieve more than 30 diverse projects that will improve our community and our quality of place.
Naysayers have misstated facts to portray very negative impacts. As Show-me-State residents, all we need to do is look at Topeka, Kan., Oklahoma City and several other communities who have long demonstrated that Transformation initiatives such as ours succeed. After passing a sales tax initiative for economic development these communities have benefited from long-term economic vitality. The transformation process and tax became a catalyst for revitalizing their communities by providing an environment that attracted private development and investment.
We can make a significant difference by investing in our community through Transformation.
