This one definitely was an attention-getter. But it was just one game.

"There's still a long way to go, this game isn't going to make or break our season," Jays coach Eddie Horn said after Jefferson City's 5-0 season-opening win Tuesday afternoon over the Quincy Notre Dame Raiders at 179 Soccer Park. "But it was a good start."

The Jays had never beaten the Raiders by more than one goal in the history of their series.

"And we win by five and shut them out in an opening game," Horn said.

The Jays dominated play from the opening whistle over the defending Class 1 Illinois state champion Raiders.

Jefferson City broke on the board on its fifth shot of the game, the goal coming from Nathan Luebbert about seven minutes into the contest. The junior shot the ball across the front of the goal and it bounced off the far post and into the net past Quincy Notre Dame keeper Zeke Little.
