A day after recording just two hits in a season-opening loss to Troy, Jefferson City put runners on base early and often Thursday.
The Lady Jays pounded out 13 hits in an 11-1 win against Sullivan at Lincoln Field. The game ended after five innings due to the run rule.
"You saw a different team tonight," Jefferson City head coach Lisa Dey said. "That's the team that hopefully we'll see all year round."
It started at the top, as in the top of the lineup. The Lady Jays put the leadoff batter on base each inning. Twice, it was leadoff hitter Dakota Newton doing the damage. She led off the first and fourth innings with singles.
"I think it's good to set the tempo when one person gets on, it kind of gets everybody else up," Newton said. "I just think it puts pressure on the defense."
