Your Opinion: Where is "tolerance' for Chick-fil-A?

August 7th, 2012 by Steve Sampson, Jefferson City in News

Dear Editor:

I guess that the mayors of Chicago and Boston not only don't want an organization such as Chick-fil-A to be located in their towns and since we born again Christians have the same view point towards marriage as President Dan Cathy of Chick-fil-A, they don't want us either. Where is the "tolerance" that I hear from these so-called enlightened individuals?

The Chicago Republican Party has filed a complaint with the Illinois Department of Human Rights and Attorney General Lisa Madigan, that "Alderman Proco (Joe) Moreno and Mayor Rahm Emanuel have broken civil rights laws pertaining to religious freedom and the First Amendment in denying Chick-fil-A, a permit to operate its business in the city of Chicago."

Moreno now wants Chick-fil-A to put into writing that it "won't support any groups with a political agenda, including those with an anti-gay marriage stance" before he'll consider allowing zoning rights to a Chick-fil-A restaurant in his ward. "If they're serious about that, and they're willing to put that in writing and they're willing to adopt that, I think those are the grounds where we can move forward," Moreno said.

The business does not discriminate against anybody, but is being denied their ability to open a business because of the personal beliefs of the company president, which is 100 percent against what we in America foster in our country.

If the mayor and this alderman can ban Chick-fil-A, then what's to say they can also ban any born again Christian from moving to their city, that has the same beliefs as president Dan Cathy? For the life of me I don't know why anybody would want to move to the murder capital of America anyway.

It seems as though every time a Democrat opens their mouth, they stick their foot in it. One would think that after doing that a few times they would fade into non-existence.

They won't however because there are too many people getting money from government rather than paying in.

Remember 47 percent do not pay federal income taxes so that means that we workers have to foot the bill for all the "free riders."
