Appeals court upholds Harris' conviction for shooting, robbery

April 26th, 2012 in News

Patrick Harris convinced the state appeals court in Kansas City that Cole County Presiding Circuit Judge Patricia Joyce made a mistake when she sentenced him to prison in May 2011.

But it was his only victory in Tuesday's ruling, which upheld Joyce on all other issues, and only changed the total length of Harris' incarceration.

The change means that Harris, now 40, must serve at least 85 percent of a total of 75 years in prison, rather than 85 percent of a total of 144 years.

Harris was known as Patrick Evans when - just two weeks after he'd been released from prison - Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson charged him with assault, robbery, armed criminal action and possession of a firearm by a felon, after an Oct. 13, 2009, attack on several friends gathered at 611 E. Capitol Ave. for an evening of food, drink and fellowship.
