Lincoln softball qualifies for playoffs

It went down to the final doubleheader of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association schedule, but the Lincoln softball team finally earned a spot in the conference tournament.

The Blue Tigers went into Sunday in a three-way tie for the eighth and final spot in the tournament, which runs from Thursday to Saturday in Overland Park, Kan. And thanks to holding the tiebreakers with the other two teams in that scenario, Lincoln had to be feeling pretty good about its chances.

However, there was still one fly in the ointment. Missouri Southern entered Sunday with two games left against Fort Hays State and with two wins, the Lady Lions could earn the final spot. With just a split, Missouri Southern would tie Lincoln and the Blue Tigers would win the tiebreaker.

But after Fort Hays State captured 1-0 and 8-3 wins, the Blue Tigers snagged the final spot in the tournament.
