An open house was held Thursday where volunteers could gather and sign up to help build a home for a local Marine whose injuries by a sniper in Afghanistan left him in a wheelchair.
Marine Cpl. Tyler Huffman was injured Dec. 3, 2010, when he was struck in the chest by an enemy sniper in Afghanistan. His injuries left him in a wheelchair.
The night before Veterans Day last year, the Fulton native was offered a building lot by Joe and Kay Twehous at the Veteran's Appreciation Dinner hosted by Jefferson City High School's Ambassador Club. Huffman was the guest of honor at the event.
A month later, Huffman and his wife accepted the offer for the lot, next to the Twehous family in Gray Creek Valley Subdivision off of Scott Station Road.
Groundbreaking for the home has tentatively been set for mid-May.
