Dear Editor:
The comment that the world will soon be "hot enough to melt lead" is obvious hyperbole, but the real effects of climate change are bad enough: melting ice caps and glaciers, rising and acidifying seas, more frequent and intense storms and drought, crop failures, increased disease, ecological disruption and species extinction.
The trouble with climate-change denial is that it gives an excuse for the delaying mitigation measures than should have begun 20 years ago, when serious scientists began warning of climate change.
Now much effort will need to be directed toward adaptation to warnings already assured by rising greenhouse gas level.
