2 area men killed in Osage River crash

A Russellville man and a Tebbetts man were killed in an Osage River boat wreck on Saturday that involved three boats and injured four other passengers.

Alvin T. Blackford, 46, Russellville, and Curtis Libbert, 33, died in the wreck, which occurred about 11:50 p.m. Saturday at the river's Bonnots Mill access, according to the Missouri Water Patrol, which continues to investigate the crash.

Boats occupied by Blackford and Libbert were anchored together in mid-channel, when another a boat driven downstream by Christopher F. Winkler, 33, hit the bow of Libbert's boat, traveled over it and the boat occupied by Blackford.

Winkler's boat sank, but he only had minor injuries.

Three other passengers on Blackford's boat were injured: Mindy S. Campbell, 28, Ashland, suffered moderate injuries, while Robert E. Schoebinger, 26, Linn, and Sean J. Veit, 39, Lohman, suffered serious injuries.

The four injured survivors were taken to St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City.

The two fatalities in the wreck mark the fourth and fifth boating fatalities in the patrol's Troop F area, which includes 13 Mid-Missouri counties.
