United Way getting Facebook boost from Central Bank

October 26th, 2011 in News

The United Way of Central Missouri is in its final days of community campaign fundraising for the year. And leaders are looking to some friends - Facebook friends, that is - to help out.

"The community, despite the economic climate, has always reached out to help, and this year is no different," said Ann Bax, president of United Way of Central Missouri, the umbrella over 25 local agencies.

Pacesetter companies took part in the campaign in August. The 13 Pacesetter companies raised 47 percent of this year's overall goal. They raised $767,007 of the $1.63 million goal.

Companies across the area that are not Pacesetters still host employee fundraisers, make corporate donations and more. Not only do companies encourage employee support and make their own donations, many also host events like barbecues, rummage sales and run/walk events. And now, one is even using social media to help United Way.

Jason Jett, director of marketing for Central Bank, announced that for every "like" the bank's Facebook page gets between now and Oct. 31, Central Bank will donate $1 to United Way of Central Missouri.
