Mo. House seeks more talks on economic development

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri House members want more negotiation over business incentives in an effort to preserve a slim chance of winning approval for the legislation.

Lawmakers have met in a special session since September. The House and the Senate have passed significantly different versions of the bill and have been at a stalemate.

House members voted Thursday to request a formal negotiation with senators. But the Senate decided this week not to continue discussions, and the chamber is not scheduled to hold more sessions when votes could be taken. The special session would expire in early November.

Several House members on Thursday were sharply critical of how the Senate has handled the debate over the business incentives legislation. House leaders say it is worth trying to find further compromise.
