ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) - A teenager charged with second-degree murder in St. Joseph waived his preliminary hearing.
Seventeen-year-old Elijah Pickett appeared Thursday in Buchanan County Court for his role in the Aug. 22 shooting death of Brian Ulmer. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 to 30 years or life in prison.
Pickett will be arraigned on Monday.
Police records allege that Pickett forced his way into Ulmer's home, with two other unidentified men. Witnesses reported that Pickett and his two accomplices were armed and demanding money and keys.
Ulmer, a father of three who was prominent in the St. Joseph music scene, died after being shot two or three times in the head.
