CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - While the Fatima Lady Comets may have come up just short in their quest for a state volleyball title, don't think for a second it took away from the enormity of what they did accomplish.
When asked if Saturday's 27-25, 25-16 loss to St. Pius X: Festus in the Class 2 title game was tough to swallow, Fatima coach Mark Bockstruck was definitely taking a "glass is half full" approach.
"You say it's tough to end like this and I don't," Bockstruck told a reporter after the Lady Comets' loss at the Show-Me Center. "Our expectations coming into the season, the girls wanted to make it past districts. I said we had more potential than that, let's go to the state tournament. That was our goal and we achieved it."
