Deputy to stand trial in federal court

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - A former deputy in southern Missouri's Carter County will go on trial on federal charges that she illegally possessed and sold firearms.

The Poplar Bluff Daily American Republic ( reports that Steffanie Marie Kearbey waived her right to pretrial motions on Wednesday in federal court in Cape Girardeau. A trial date has not been set.

Kearbey and former Sheriff Tommy Adams were indicted in August by a federal grand jury. Adams faces three counts of possession of stolen firearms, one count of sale of a stolen firearm and one count of being an unlawful user of controlled substances in possession of firearms.

No trial date has been set at this time for Adams, who also faces state charges for allegedly distributing methamphetamine and cocaine to a confidential informant.
