Trial delayed for Missouri man in death of infant son

CARTHAGE, Mo. (AP) - The trial of a southwest Missouri man charged with murdering his 8-month-old son has again been delayed.

Eddie Salazar Sr., of Carthage, touched off an Amber Alert in February 2010 when he told police that two masked men broke into his home, beat him unconscious and abducted the baby. The body of Eddie Salazar Jr. turned up two days later in a river east of Carthage. The death was ruled a homicide.

The elder Salazar has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. His trial was twice postponed earlier this year.

The Carthage Press reports the trial had been set to begin Monday, but the defense attorney had a health issue in her family and requested another delay. The judge and Jasper County prosecutor agreed. A new date will be set next month.
