Helias moves to 2-0

MURRAY, Ky. - The Helias Crusaders are 2-0 at the Tiger Classic after edging Trigg County (Ky.) 6-5 on Friday.

Quintin Matheis and Zach Backes drove in two runs each for the Crusaders. Zach Rockers and Deion Hughes had two hits.

Bret Gerstner was the winner in relief. He pitched the final three innings, striking out seven. Jeremy Braun was the starter, working four innings. He gave up six hits and four walks while striking out two.

On Thursday night, Helias dumped Murray (Ky.) 10-2.

Hughes was the winning pitcher, working six innings, He gave up two runs on four hits while striking out 10. Chandler Wolf struck out the side in the seventh for the Crusaders.

Rockers, Backes and Hughes all had two hits. Logan Gaines and Rockers both drove in two runs.

Weather permitting, Helias (3-0) will play two games today - at 10 a.m. vs. Paducah (Ky.) Christian Academy and at 1 p.m. against Davidson, Tenn.

Cancellations

Several area teams have been making adjustments to their schedules due to the weather this weekend.

Jefferson City High School canceled both Friday's boys golf dual with California and baseball game at Centralia. No makeup date was announced for either event.

Another baseball team hit hard was Calvary Lutheran, as the Lions lost two home games when they canceled Friday's game with Newburg and Saturday's game with Lutheran: Kansas City. Neither has been rescheduled as of yet.

The Fatima Blue and Gold Tournament, set for Friday and Saturday, was also canceled. No makeup date has yet been announced.

The Lincoln baseball team has shifted its action for this weekend. Instead of playing doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at Nebraska-Omaha, the Blue Tigers and Mavericks will now play Sunday and Monday in Topeka, Kan.

The teams could play the twinbills at either the Lake Shawnee Baseball Complex or the baseball field at Washburn University.

Sunday's doubleheader is slated to start at 1 p.m., while Monday's is slated to start at 9 a.m.

Track and Field

Helias sweeps Quad

UNION - The Helias Crusaders and Lady Crusaders captured titles Thursday at the Union Quad.

The Crusaders totaled 105 points to take the boys title. Helias took first in seven individual events and all four relays.

On the girls side, the Lady Crusaders finished with 110.5 team points. Helias won 10 events, including all four relays.

The Crusaders and Lady Crusaders will be back in action Tuesday afternoon in a triangular against Boonville and Moberly at Adkins Stadium.
