Detroit News auto critic withdraws resignation

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit News car critic who resigned after the newspaper asked him to change sections of a scathing review of the Chrysler 200 following an advertiser complaint is returning to work.

The paper says Scott Burgess withdrew his resignation after meeting with editor and publisher Jon Wolman, who wrote a letter of apology to readers over the weekend.

Burgess told the News on Wednesday "they apologized and I accepted it."

Burgess was asked to change several passages of his review of the car promoted in a popular Super Bowl television ad featuring rapper Eminem. Wolman has said that happened after an advertiser complained about "acerbic and disrespectful" material.

The original review appeared in the newspaper's March 10 print edition. Changes were made to the online version.
