The Jefferson City Jays didn't have the best season last year under first-year head coach Brian Ash.

They wrapped up the year 13-12 and were handed an 11-1 loss by Helias in the district tournament.

Ash expects this year to be different, as he sees his seniors taking charge and his players feeling more comfortable with him at the helm.

"I'm very optimistic," Ash said. "They're buying into it. Our leadership has improved, they know what to expect.

"I really feel like the cohesiveness is there. Last year, they were still trying to figure me out and I was trying to figure them out. But our seniors have done an excellent job of taking everything by the reigns and leading by example."
