Missouri senators this week approved dropping the word "Coordinating" from the name of Missouri's Coordinating Board for Higher Education.
Sen. Tim Green, D-Spanish Lake, proposed the amendment to a bill intended to keep nine members on the board supervising operations of the four-campus University of Missouri system, the Springfield-based Missouri State University and the CBHE.
"It's going to continue to be the "Board of Higher Education,'" Green explained, "because they don't coordinate anything.
"Each university has their own entity - their own kingdoms - and they don't work to provide affordable higher education by coordinating with other universities so we do not have all these duplications of different degrees all throughout the states."
