Missouri AG says Nixa woman pocketed donations

March 6th, 2011 in News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri attorney general's office says a Nixa woman has been pocketing money she collected in donation canisters for missing children.

Attorney General Chris Koster said Friday that Susan Reade Durham of Nixa placed the canisters at businesses in Springfield, saying she was collecting money to help families find their missing children.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Koster estimated that Durham averaged at least $3,400 a month, which she kept.

Koster asked a Greene County court to order Durham and three North Carolina residents who provided the materials for the scam to stop soliciting money and to pay restitution and civil penalties for violating the state's charitable donations solicitation laws.
