More than a year after Cole County officials discovered an error in the county's surtax distribution formula and more than two months after lawsuits were filed in the matter, there is little change for all of the parties involved.
In December of last year, Jefferson City filed a lawsuit to recover more than $750,000 of surtax funds that the city was not paid in the three years leading up to the discovery of the error. The city filed the lawsuit because the county did not sign the repayment agreement, which would have spread the repayment of the funds across 10 years.
