PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he's disappointed about plans to increase water releases from the Oahe Dam Saturday and Sunday.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced late Friday that continued rainfall upstream has sent extra water into the Missouri River and said it has no choice but to increase the flows. Corps officials say they believe the levees below Oahe can handle the extra water.
Daugaard says he's worried about the effect the change will have in South Dakota on private levees that were built to certain levels based on information provided by the corps.
The governor says he believes the corps should plan for high rainfall and avoid increasing water releases. He says he has assembled a team to investigate management decisions by the agency that contributed to the flood.
