KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Kansas City man has been convicted in the death of a police records clerk who prosecutors say was killed by men who went to the wrong house.
A Jackson County jury convicted 26-year-old Anthony J. Standifer late Friday in the March 2010 death of 69-year-old Beverly Crowl. He was also convicted of robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.
Prosecutors said Standifer and three others broke into Crowl's home and shot her as she talked on the telephone. Standifer told detectives he shot Crowl because she had seen their faces.
Prosecutors say the men meant to go to a different house that they believed had drugs and cash.
Sentencing was scheduled for July 22.
Crowl worked for 32 years at the Independence Police Department.
