We have two worlds in the USA. We have over 50 states and then we have Washington, D.C., and the elected elite. We pay their salaries, health care, pension, perks and more perks. They have only one concern, to get re-elected.
That is the perception of 75 percent of the population. We elect them to represent us in national government.
Do they represent us? According to the polls the answer is no.
They have a 25 percent approval rating. They have never passed a budget for this year. Can we demand they return their salary?
Our government gives us political spin, rhetoric and outright lies on about everything.
The debt on interest and maturity of losses on bonds is around $20 billion a month.
The revenue is around $200 billion. Do the math, pay the bill.
The administration wants to raise the debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion. They have near agreement of $1.5 trillion deficit cuts. That leaves us with another trillion added to our deficit for 2012. Do they have a clue?
Will the debt ceiling need to be raised? The most likely answer is yes, but it should be short term.
If the debt ceiling is raised $2.4 trillion as requested there must be a $5 trillion deficit reduction attached to that bill and start cutting now.
The reduction needs to start in government and government personnel from the president on down through the ranks. We need efficiency, accountability and restraint.
I have written letters concerning duplication and overlap of government agencies on programs before.
Here are a few more examples: economic development, 80 programs; social service, 118 programs maybe more; surface transportation, over 100 programs; teacher quality, 82 programs.
I wish I had an employee count so I could multiply that number by $123,000. That is the average government salary.
President Obama said we have to eat our peas.
Well I say we have to bite the bullet and do what is necessary to balance the budget.
