Storm disrupts some Ameren customers' service

Thanks to a thunderstorm and its lightning, about 250 Ameren Missouri customers lost power for a while Tuesday afternoon, spokesman Mike Cleary said.

The biggest outage was on East Ashley Street, where 111 customers lost power for about 90 minutes, because of a blown fuse that had to be located and replaced.

"Some customers experienced "blinks' caused by lightning hitting our system, but they didn't lose power," he said.

Most of the 250 customers with outages were scattered throughout the area, with "12 people here and a few over there," Cleary said.

"We had nothing major (on Tuesday afternoon), compared with Cape Girardeau, which had 1,500 out, or St. Louis, with 6,000 customers losing power," he noted.

Thunderstorms and strong winds continued to threaten trees and electrical lines on Tuesday night and early Wednesday.
